Four Sisters, A Fox and A Cockatiel, 36" x 42" oil on canvas

The Snap Shot Series

The concept for this series was to put lookalike dogs and their human companions together. As I painted I began to realize that to subordinate the human in the background it would add a little humor to have them busy with something while the dog was intensely staring ahead. Sometimes a painting tells me what to paint as I'm doing it and these definitely did that for me. The hat blowing off, the turned heads and dancing in the background were all part of this idea. The lookalikes happened with arms and ears and bulk, using vintage black and whites of Alfred Hitchcock's and Twiggy's bodies as models and childhood photographs for the ballerina…..and then… other animals started to show up!!
